The 24-year-old from Hamburg is not yet fully fit again after her knee injury and is therefore not available for the Regional Group I tournament from April 7th to 11th in Oeiras, Portugal, the German Tennis Federation (DTB) announced. The new head coach Torben Beltz nominated Nastasja Schunk, 22, and Eva Bennemann, 18. They complete the young and barely experienced team with Ella Seidel, 21, Noma Noha Akugue, 22, and Tessa Brockmann, 20. Beltz also did without the experienced players Laura Siegemund, 38, and Tatjana Maria, 38, due to the restructuring announced by the association.
In Group D, Germany will face Denmark, Portugal and Sweden. In order to qualify for the next round, the DTB selection must come first in the group and be among the top three teams in the knockout phase. The four worst-placed country selections are relegated to Regional Group II. Now Ella Seidel, number 85 in the world rankings, is on paper by far the best player in the squad.
