Fearful opponent shows the limits: Zverev also fails in the semi-finals in Monte Carlo to Sinner

In front of tennis legend Boris Becker, Zverev had no chance, especially at the beginning of the game. The German made too many mistakes and often seemed at a loss against the world number two. Zverev lost his first two service games and only managed to win his first game after 25 minutes. Sinner seemed more present and hardly gave his opponent a chance to breathe.

Form test for the French Open

After the tough three-set win against Brazilian João Fonseca in the quarterfinals, Zverev apparently lacked a bit of esprit. The first round was lost after just 35 minutes when Sinner took his serve for the third time.

At the start of his clay court season, Zverev had big plans. The tournament in Monte-Carlo should be an important first test for him on the way to the French Open in Paris, where he is once again hoping for his first Grand Slam title. But Sinner repeatedly showed him his limits in the second set. Against the Italian’s serve, Zverev only managed two points in the second round before he conceded another break at the end and his exit was sealed.

Sinner had a perfect month of tennis in the USA in March and won the Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. He became the eighth player in total to achieve the so-called “Sunshine Double”. On the way there, he eliminated Zverev in two sets in the semi-finals.
