Ice hockey: Adler Mannheim also win the second DEL semi-final

The Adler Mannheim moved ahead in the semi-finals of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with another 3:2 (0:0, 1:2, 1:0, 1:0) after extra time at former champions EHC Red Bull Munich to 2:0. Justin Schütz made the decision in the fourth minute of overtime. The Adler striker deflected a shot from Marc Michaelis towards the boards. From there the puck bounced back onto Munich goalkeeper Antoine Bibeau’s pad and then rolled over the line to make it 3-2. “I have never scored a goal like that before,” said Schütz at Magentasport. “It’s brutally happy.”

In front of 10,796 fans in the sold-out SAP Garden, the guests were initially 2-0 behind after a double strike from Yasin Ehliz (32nd) and Tobias Rieder (33rd). However, Nicolas Mattinen (35th) and Matthias Plachta (54th) forced extra time. The Eagles had already won the first duel 3-2 in overtime. It continues on Sunday (4:30 p.m.) with game three in the best-of-seven series in Mannheim.

Meanwhile, the Kölner Haie equalized to 1-1 with a 5:1 (0:1, 3:0, 1:0) win against the Eisbären Berlin in the other DEL semi-final. The Sharks also redeemed the 18,600 fans with their clear victory. In the new edition of last year’s final, in which Cologne had suffered three 7-0 defeats in a row, a storming run in the second half with goals from Patrick Russell (22nd/29th), Dominik Bokk (30th) and Louis-Marc Aubry (34th) made the decision. Gregor MacLeod (44th) was also successful. Berlin, which had retained the upper hand 6-3 in the first duel, even took the lead through Yannick Veilleux (15th). Game three follows on Sunday (2 p.m.) in the capital.
