Davidovich and Munar continue ahead in Paris and Bautista, Carreño and Burillo say goodbye

The Spanish tennis players Alejandro Davidovich and Jaume Munar have advanced to the second round of Roland Garros, the second ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, after beating the Monegasque Valentin Vacherot this Tuesday (4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 7- 6(2)) and the also Spanish Roberto Bautista (6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1), respectively, in a day in which, in addition to the Castellón native, Pablo Carreño and Irene Burillo have said goodbye .

On a Tuesday marked by rain and which delayed all the matches held outside the Philippe Chatrier and the Suzanne-Lenglen, Davidovich, number 32 in the world, reacted in time to avoid the surprise of Vacherot, 116 in the ATP ranking, from the previous and who won the first round thanks to a solitary break in the last game.

The man from Malaga defended his serves and did not give up breaks in any of the next two sets, which he solved with two breaks in each, and in the last set he dominated in the tie-break to close the match in two hours and 41 minutes of play.

In this way, he ended his streak of two consecutive losses, after falling in the third round of the Mutua Madrid Open and in his debut at the Masters 1,000 in Rome. Now, he will face last year’s finalist and seventh seed, the Norwegian Casper Ruud, who easily defeated the Brazilian Felipe Meligeni Alves (6-3, 6-4, 6-3).

In the fratricidal duel of the day, Munar defeated Bautista to meet in a few days with the Australian Alex de Miñaur, who also beat the American Alex Michelsen this Tuesday (6-1, 6-0, 6-2). The Spaniard, number 64 in the world, kept his serve intact in an opening set in which he scored three breaks.

The player from Castellón, 81st in the world, equalized the contest after taking a 5-2 lead in the next set, but Munar, breaking his opponent’s serve twice in the third set and another two in the fourth, won the victory, putting an end to a fight of three hours and 14 minutes on Runway 12 of the Bois de Boulogne venue.

Meanwhile, Pablo Carreño was eliminated despite advancing in his match against the Argentine Mariano Navone (5-7, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0). The Asturian had an erratic first set, but sank after losing all his serves in the second. Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the third, he suffered the South American’s comeback before saying goodbye to Paris with a ‘rosco’.

Also saying goodbye, in this case in the women’s team, was Zaragoza’s Irene Burillo, who was playing in her first ‘big game’ and who succumbed to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima (6-1, 6-1).
