Switzerland's hasty victory against Hungary in its debut

Duah, Aebischer and Embolo scored the Swiss goals (1-3)

The Swiss soccer team defeated Hungary 1-3 this Saturday, with goals from Kwadwo Duah, Michel Aebischer and Breel Embolo to make the goal scored by Barnabás Varga for the Hungarian team insufficient, in a corresponding match to matchday 1 in Group A of the men’s Euro Cup.

At the Rhein Energie Stadion in Cologne, the Swiss were better than their opponents on all lines and in the 12th minute they achieved their reward in the form of a goal. Aebischer reached the three-quarter zone and filtered a great pass to Duah, unmarked behind the Hungarian centre-backs.

First of all, with a sharp right hand, the Swiss number 18 beat the exit of rival goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi. That encouraged Murat Yakin’s pupils, as Ruben Vargas inside the area executed a strong shot in the 20th minute that was repelled by Gulácsi, who could do little later at 0-2.

Very close to reaching the break, the Magyar defense lost a ball in front of its area that ended up at the feet of Aebischer, who outlined himself from the crown until hooking a right foot into the stump of the far post. Despite taking that blow at a difficult moment, Hungary recovered in time to scare the Swiss fans during the second half.

When the 63rd minute was up, Roland Sallai sent a magnificent cross from the left wing into the opponent’s area and Varga’s header, at the penalty spot, narrowly missed. It was the prelude to the 1-2, the work of Varga himself in the 66th minute following an attack guided by Bendegúz Bolla.

Hungary’s number 14 advanced meters from the midfield, opened the game on the left for Sallai to tame the ball; He looked up and crossed with his right foot to the far post, where Varga escaped Aebischer’s marking to head a foreshortened header into the back of the net.

However, Switzerland reacted to a gallop by Dan Ndoye down the left side and which he himself settled with an aimless shot. And later he enjoyed a header from Fabian Schär from a set piece, although his shot went close to a goal post defended by Gulácsi.

Marco Rossi’s men pushed in the final stretch of the game, although they did not find any luck and paid dearly in injury time with the score at 1-3. On a long ball, Willi Orbán made a fatal clearance and the ball was open to Embolo, who beat the goalkeeper with a subtle chip.

This victory put the Swiss team with three points, the same as the host Germany has in the lead due to its best goal difference after the 5-1 against Scotland. For its part, the Magyar team still has a zero in its points box within this Group A.
