Murray retires from tennis tournament at Queen's Club due to injury

Tennis pro Andy Murray retired from the grass court tournament at London’s Queen’s Club one day after winning his 1000th singles match on the ATP Tour. The 37-year-old Scot was unable to continue after just a few games against Australian Jordan Thompson. The reason for this was apparently back problems.

When the score was 1:4, Murray gave up the match and left the court to the applause of the spectators. After the first change of ends, the five-time winner of the tournament had already received treatment.

At the traditional preparation event for the grass court classic in Wimbledon, the former world number one won his anniversary match against the Australian Alexei Popyrin in three sets on Tuesday and celebrated his 739th victory on the ATP Tour. Afterwards he joked that his body had felt better before.

Murray, who has been playing with an artificial hip for years, has announced that he will end his career this year. However, the two-time singles gold medalist still wants to compete at the Olympics in Paris.
