Fábio Matias talks about reinforcements and plans a short squad at Coritiba

Three weeks before the next transfer window, July 10th, the coach of Coritiba, Fábio Matias, avoided giving more details about possible sectors to be reinforced in the team. The coach stated that he prefers to work with a shorter squad in football.

“Very large casts expose you too much during training, you need many hours to rotate everyone. When you have smaller groups, you can be more direct, repeat some information more often. So I don’t see a pro of working with a large cast “explained the coach during a press conference, this Tuesday (18).

For Matias, the club should prioritize young people trained at the club, moving athletes up from base to professional level. During his career, the coach worked with the transition of players on different teams, a line he should follow at Coxa. With a smaller cast, according to him, younger people get more chances.

“There has to be a window for young players. The more older players there are, the abundance of young players in the squad ends up decreasing. So, this situation with the smaller squad favors having some young players that the fans have not yet seen in the main squad”, said Matias.

Even so, the professional stated that Coritiba is in the process of mapping possible reinforcements and sectors experiencing greater difficulties.

“We prefer to keep the squad shorter at first to be able to visualize who are the players who have the conditions and prospects at the club, which positions are lacking, so that we don’t exaggerate. Working with more than 30 players, for me today, it’s impossible”highlighted the commander thigh-white.

Fábio Matias revealed conversation with Coritiba cast

The Coxa coach revealed that he had conversations separately with athletes from the Alviverde squad to understand their moment at the club. One of them was the steering wheel Andreywhich only has six games left in the season.

“He’s an athlete I’ve known for over six years. He has great technical potential. What I need is to understand each person’s moment. I’ve had conversations, Andrey was an athlete I talked to. From the moment I understand the player, that he has a good mental state, then the field part will decide. And today, Andrey’s situation on the field will define whether he will be there or not. [nos jogos]”detailed Matias.

“Today, my quest is to understand how the athletes are doing. I want to work here with whoever I can look at in the face and see that they want to be here. This conversation with Andrey was really cool, because he gave a positive opinion about what he wants. And it’s not just him, there are others too. It’s an internal process that has to be very well diagnosed”, he added.

Fábio Matias highlighted that he wants to have athletes in the squad who want to be at the club. This week, Criciúma confirmed that the midfielder Arilsonwho played for Tigre last season, for a possible return.

The parties, including Coxa, reached an agreement, confirmed the Santa Catarina team’s football executive, Alex Brasil, but the midfielder backed out due to the salary issue. At Coxa, Matias confirmed that he will continue training with the group normally and can be used.

“As it is a long championship, it is important that we have these individual questions about the athletes. This individual work has to be perfect. I know all the athletes who are here, over the years or have faced them, or had them in the database. This commitment and relationship with the player is fundamental. Direct and straight. He has to look me in the eye and know”, concluded the coach.
