Romania stuns Ukraine and achieves its first European Championship victory in 24 years

Romania achieved its first victory in the European Football Championship in 24 years with a 3-0 victory over Ukraine in its opening match of the fifth group of the competition held in Germany.

Two stunning shots from long range in each half from captain Nikolai Stanciu and midfielder Razvan Marin shocked the Ukraine team, led by coach Sergei Rebrov, who controlled the first 20 minutes of the match.

The result of the match was decided about an hour before play, when influential striker Dennis Mann ran into the penalty area after a corner kick and fired a low pass, and the ball reached Dennis Dragosh, who put it into the net.

Romania’s solid defense stood firm to prevent any return for Ukraine and achieved the country’s second victory in 17 matches in the history of the European Championship. The first victory was over England 3-2 in the 2000 tournament.
