Mireia Belmonte and Jessica Vall are left without Games

The Spanish swimmer Mireia Belmonte will not be in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after failing to achieve the minimum this Saturday in the final of the 400 meter freestyle of the Spanish Championship, the same, if possible, crueler fate than Jessica Vall in the 200 breaststroke.

The four-time Olympic medalist could not avoid the consequence of a cycle complicated by injuries, without a minimum to compete in the capital of France this summer. The CXI Spanish Swimming Championship in the absolute category, in Palma de Mallorca, served her last options but she did not achieve it in either the 200 or the 400 styles, nor this Saturday in the 400 freestyle.

The best Spanish swimmer in history tried in the three tests but fell far short of those minimums. In the last final this Saturday, Badalona came sixth. For her part, desolation flooded Vall, because she was two hundredths away from being in Paris 2024, which would have been her third Games.

The Son Hugo stands and their rivals tried to console the Catalan, but it was impossible. Vall gave everything and clocked 2:23.93 to win the 200 breaststroke final, but the minimum was 2:23.91.
