Felix Neureuther in the Presidium of Special Olympics

Former ski racer Felix Neureuther is a new member of the executive board of Special Olympics Germany (SOD). The 40-year-old from Garmisch-Partenkirchen is to promote the visibility of athletes with intellectual and multiple disabilities and help shape the association’s sustainable direction, as Special Olympics Germany announced.

“I am very happy to be part of Special Olympics Germany and to be committed to inclusion and the athletes. I will campaign for open cooperation and fair play. There is hardly anywhere else where fairness and sportsmanship are lived as much as in the largest inclusive sports organization,” said the 2015 team world champion, “at the same time I want to pass on the joy of exercise, sport and competition.”

SOD President Christiane Krajewski is delighted that Special Olympics Germany has been able to recruit Neureuther, a personality who has played a key role in shaping German sport: “His active commitment to value-based sport and an open and sustainable society supports our vision and mission of inclusion for all people with intellectual disabilities.”

The most successful German alpine skier with 13 World Cup victories in individual races has already founded his own foundation in 2020, with which he wants to promote exercise and health, especially among children and young people, but also among adults.
