With the right attitude, the DFB team will advance

Former national coach Berti Vogts is confident that the German national football team will advance to the next round ahead of the European Championship round of 16 match against Denmark on Saturday.

“Germany will win with its quality – if it goes into the game with the 100 percent right attitude,” wrote the 77-year-old in his column for the “Rheinische Post”. The 1:1 draw against Switzerland on the last day of the group match was an “important warning shot,” he explained.

Like so many experts, Vogts is disappointed with the performance of the English national team so far. “What they showed was not the English football that I like and that we know from the Premier League: full of dynamism, full of speed, full of passion. Of course it’s nice to prevent goals, but the main thing is to score them. What England has shown so far is too pragmatic for me.”

Nevertheless, from Vogts’ point of view, it would be “fatal” to write off the English in the knockout phase. “The same applies to France, Portugal and Italy, who also have a lot to live up to – but they are all still in the competition and, in my opinion, alongside the strong Spaniards, they are still among the teams that can challenge our team for the title.”
