BVB loan player Maatsen to Aston Villa

Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund has to let go of loan player Ian Maatsen after only half a year. The 22-year-old left-back is moving from his current club Chelsea to Premier League rivals Aston Villa. The Villans confirmed the transfer, which had already been hinted at recently.

BVB loaned the Dutch European Championship participant from Chelsea last winter, and Maatsen immediately played a good role in Dortmund. Nothing has been officially disclosed about the transfer fee. According to media reports, however, Aston Villa offered significantly more than Champions League finalists Dortmund. The British broadcaster BBC recently reported that a transfer fee of between 44.5 million and a good 50 million euros would be due for Maatsen.

Aston Villa qualified for the Champions League by finishing fourth in the table last season. Maatsen and the Dutch national team will face Romania in the round of 16 of the European Championship next Tuesday.
