Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa advanced on Thursday to the third round of Wimbledon, the third ‘Grand Slam’ of the season to be played on grass, after beating Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova, world number 88, (6-4, 6-2) in one hour and 21 minutes of play.

Paula Badosa continues her strong run at Wimbledon after beating Fruhvitova with superiority, reaching the third round of the British Grand Slam for the second year in a row. The Spaniard is rediscovering her best form, and so far has not dropped a set in the tournament, beating two players with a better WTA ranking.

The Catalan based her superiority on an aggressive game with which she achieved up to 22 winning shots, a figure much higher than the nine achieved by her rival. In addition, Badosa’s serve worked perfectly, winning 74 percent of the points played with the first, although for the next match she will have to adjust her second serve, since she committed up to six double faults and only won 32 percent of the points played.

The match did not have the best possible start for Badosa, who gave up her serve in the first game of the match, giving the only advantage she would have in the match to Fruhvirtova. The Spaniard’s reaction was not long in coming, and in her first break opportunity, in the second game of the match, she gave the Czech the break back. It would be the first of three breaks that Badosa would give her rival in the first set, as she would also achieve it in the sixth and tenth games of the set.

Badosa, who saw the Czech break her serve on another occasion, ended up winning the first set 6-4. A first set that she won despite the 12 unforced errors committed, and her rival was even more erratic in her game, giving away up to 13 points to Badosa.

In the second and final set of the match, Badosa’s superiority in the match became even more evident, giving Fruhvertova no chance from the start. The Catalan started off in an overwhelming fashion with a partial of 4-1 in her favour, managing to break the Czech’s first two service turns and, despite losing her serve on one occasion, put herself on the right track for the match. A match that she would end up closing with another break of serve in the eighth and final game of the set (6-2).

In addition to the score, the numbers from the second set also showed the improvement in the Spaniard’s game, much less erratic and solid than in the first. Badosa, with a more controlled game, lowered her number of winners (9), but reduced the number of errors to just (3). In addition, she was especially effective on the break points in her favor, achieving an immaculate 3 out of 3.

Now, the next hurdle in Badosa’s path in the tournament will be the Russian Daria Kasatkina, seeded number 14 in the tournament and number 12 in the WTA rankings, who comes from defeating the British Yuriko Lily Miyazaki in the second round by a double 6-0.

BOUZAS CONTINUES TO BE ‘SWEET’ AND REACHES THE THIRD ROUND, MUNAR ELIMINATED

Spanish tennis player Jessica Bouzas has defeated her compatriot Cristina Bucsa in the second round of Wimbledon (7-6(1), 6-3), reaching the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, where she will face the Czech, number 31 seed in the tournament, Krejcikova.

Bouzas was superior to Bucsa and, after winning a very disputed first set in the tie break, imposed his tennis in a second set that, after breaking Bucsa’s serve on two occasions, he ended up winning by the result of 6-3, closing the match in one hour and 52 minutes.

For his part, the Spaniard Jaume Munar was eliminated from the tournament after being defeated by the Australian Alex De Miñaur by a resounding 6-2/6-2/7-5 in two hours and four minutes of play.
