An 18-year-old, a professional player at Stade Rennais according to the local press, was taken into custody for involuntary manslaughter after the death of a woman he hit while riding an electric scooter, we learned this Wednesday from the public prosecutor’s office. He will be brought before the public prosecutor’s office this Thursday, Rennes public prosecutor Philippe Astruc added to AFP, confirming information from Ouest-France.

According to the newspaper, the accused is a professional player for Stade Rennais, who went through the club’s training center. A minor who was a passenger on the scooter is also registered at the training center. A 51-year-old woman died on June 24, several days after being hit by the young man.

The victim was knocked down on a wide avenue in the centre of Rennes, where the roads are located on either side of a partly grassy esplanade occupied in particular by café and restaurant terraces. The accident occurred “on the non-road part of this space”, Philippe Astruc specified last week.

The driver and his minor passenger had both been questioned by investigators, and tests had not revealed any alcohol or drug use, according to the magistrate.
