Neuer is not yet thinking about the end of his career

National soccer goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is not yet thinking about the end of his career. “To be honest, I’m not even thinking about quitting. I think it would inhibit me and put me under pressure if I constantly reminded myself: Oh, this could be your last tournament,” said the 38-year-old goalkeeper in an interview with “Welt”.

“That would not be good for me psychologically at all. That’s why I’m looking forward to every game like this one against Spain, which is a really big game,” Neuer added. He and the DFB team will face the impressively strong Spaniards in Stuttgart on Friday (6 p.m./ARD/Magenta TV).

The time will come when he will think about it. “But not in the here and now,” stressed the FC Bayern Munich goalkeeper. The 2014 world champion broke his tibia and fibula in his right lower leg on a ski tour after being eliminated in the group stage at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but is back number one at the club and in the national team after his long break.

No move to Saudi Arabia or Qatar

Because he is fully dedicated to the European Championship, what is happening in Munich is not necessarily his topic, Neuer added. The German record champions only finished third in the Bundesliga after a disastrous season and remained without a title. “We want to attack again,” Neuer announced.
