National team may play qualifiers in Porto Alegre in September

The CBF’s current plan is that the next game of the Brazilian Team for the Qualifiers either in Porto Alegre. The duel in question is against Ecuador, on September 5th or 6th.

UOL found out that the entity is working so that the stadium used will be Internacional’s Beira-Rio, the venue for the World Cup. The CBF is waiting for some logistical and structural issues to be resolved before scheduling the game in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

One of them concerns the complete recovery of the Colorado stadium’s lawn, which was covered by the flood that hit Rio Grande do Sul.

But Inter has already scheduled its return to the stadium for next Sunday (7), in the game against Vasco, for the Brasileirão.

Another crucial scenario is that there must be a nearby airport capable of receiving international flights. This is a requirement of FIFA and CONMEBOL.

The way to achieve this is the internationalization of the Canoas Air Base, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, since the Salgado Filho Airport, which was flooded, remains out of operation.

The game in Porto Alegre would be an action by the CBF in support of the state hit by the flood this year.

There is still no plan B

The outlook is that this scenario will become clearer soon after the Copa América. The CBF, for now, is not working with a plan B. If the Porto Alegre idea doesn’t work out, the entity will discuss with the technical committee what the best destination is.

The CBF considers the quality of the pitch as a primary factor. The Brazilian team is in 6th place in the Qualifiers, after a poor campaign last year. There were six games, two wins, one draw and three losses.
