Russell on pole ahead of Hamilton

George Russell has secured pole position for his Formula 1 home race. Six days after his Grand Prix victory in Spielberg, Austria, the 26-year-old Brit confirmed the upward trend of the German factory team Mercedes.

Russell’s compatriot and teammate Lewis Hamilton came second in qualifying for the British Grand Prix. Amidst the great cheers of the British fans, Lando Norris raced to third place in the McLaren, completing the British trio in the top three places.

World champion Max Verstappen, who is 81 points ahead of Norris in the standings and who recently had a serious clash with his friend on the track in Styria, will start this Sunday (4 p.m. CEST/Sky) in fourth place in the Red Bull alongside Norris. Nico Hülkenberg managed a strong sixth place in the Haas in the knockout round.
