When Ilkay Gündogan returns to work at his club at the end of the month after a meager three weeks’ holiday, he will not have to hope for a grace period. He will soon have more challenging tasks ahead of him. Gündogan will be back just in time to go on a tour of the United States with FC Barcelona. For the club, it is about international marketing and handsome appearance fees, which he cannot do without due to his horrendous debts. It is contractually agreed that Barcelona’s stars will take part in the exhibition matches. After a friendly match against Gündogan’s former club Manchester City in Orlando, Florida, there will be a pre-season version of the Spanish classic on August 4th.
