Donny van de Beek signs for Girona FC until 2028

The Dutch midfielder arrives from Manchester United, although he played on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt

Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek has signed for Girona FC, a club with which he will sign until 2028 and where he joins from Manchester United of the English Premier League, where he was in a slow streak and now, at Montilivi and in a historic season for his new club, he hopes to recover his best form under the orders of Míchel.

“Donny van de Beek will be a new Girona FC player for the next four seasons. The club and Manchester United have reached a transfer agreement for the Dutch midfielder,” the Girona club announced in a statement.

The new player for the Montilivi club is a “very talented” midfielder who stands out for his vision of the game. “He has the ability to score goals and his ability to create goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. In addition, he is a versatile player who can adapt to different positions,” Girona said.

The truth is that he was part of the best Ajax team in recent times and played a prominent role in the centre of the field, where he can play as an attacking midfielder and defensive pivot as well as a pure midfielder. At 27, he still has a long way to go and, if he feels comfortable with Míchel and at Girona, there is room to recover the potential he had not so long ago.

But he has played very little in the last campaign, which began at a United club where he was not considered by the coach, his compatriot Erik ten Hag, and he played only two games and 21 minutes in total. In the winter he was loaned to Eintracht, where he played 8 games but was unable to play more due to a final heel injury.

The new ‘blanc-i-vermell’ footballer was born in April 1997 in Nijkerkerveen, in the Netherlands. He started playing for his hometown team and in the summer of 2014 he joined the Ajax Amsterdam academy, becoming one of the most outstanding talents in the club’s youth system alongside Blaugrana’s Frenkie de Jong and Bayern centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

After just one year in the academy, he made his debut with the Jong Ajax reserve team in 2015 and two months later he was called up to the first team for the match against Den Haag in an Eredivise game, and was awarded the club’s ‘Talent of the Future’ distinction, which had previously been won by Rafael van der Vaart, Wesley Sneijder, Christian Eriksen and his new teammate Daley Blind.

Van de Beek made his debut for Ajax in November 2015 in a Europa League match against Celtic and established himself the following season, making 29 appearances and reaching the Europa League final. He made his debut for the Dutch national team in the 17-18 season. The following year, Ajax reached the Champions League semi-final.

In September 2020, Donny van de Beek was transferred to Manchester United and played 62 games for the ‘Red Devils’ before being loaned, last season, to Eintracht Frankfurt of the German Bundesliga.
