Ronald Araujo will have to undergo surgery for his thigh injury during the Copa America

FC Barcelona’s Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo will miss a large part of the new 2024/25 season after a thigh injury suffered with Uruguay in the Copa América that will force the 25-year-old player to undergo surgery.

“Tests carried out at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper have shown that first team player Ronald Araujo has suffered an injury to the hamstring tendon in his right thigh,” the Blaugrana club confirmed on Monday.

In the coming days, Araujo will undergo surgery under the supervision of the club’s medical services in Turku (Finland).

“A new medical report will be provided at the end of the operation,” the club said. However, due to the type of injury and the operation he will undergo, the Uruguayan centre-back could be out for around four months and, therefore, will miss the start of the new campaign.

Araujo joins the Spaniard Pedri – with a sprained left knee – as Barça will be absent in the new season under the orders of German Hansi Flick, due to injuries suffered by its players in international matches.
