Berrettini beats Tsitsipas and is in the final at the Swiss Open

Matthew Berrettini is in the final of the “Swiss Open”, an ATP 250 tournament held on the clay courts of the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad, with a total prize pool of 579,320 euros. The tennis player from the capital, sixth seed in the seeding and number 82 in the world, who won his first ATP title in Gstaad in 2018, defeated the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas the first seeding favorite, by 7-6(8) 7-5 after an hour and 41 minutes of play. On Berrettini’s path there is now the Frenchman Quentin Halys27 years old, world no. 192 and coming from the qualifications. Between the Roman and his opponent tomorrow there is only one precedent dating back to nine years ago when he beat the Frenchman 6-3 7-6 in the round of 16 of the Italy F29.

“I was focused and I knew that every break could be decisive. It was a mix of emotions that led to the tie break of the first set. I played my best tennis at the decisive moment”, explains Berrettini at the end of the match won against Tsitsipas. Now in the final he will meet Halys after many years who, unlike the Roman, has never exploded despite promising well. “It will be a difficult match – says Berrettini – we met in a tournament in Tuscany nine years ago and it was a different situation”, admits the Italian champion who is finding his best condition after being inactive for a long time and having lost many positions in the rankings, falling from n.6 to the current n.82.
