Olympics in Vienna? This is what the summer games in the city could look like

Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Paris and Los Angeles in 2028. Only mega-cities can Olympic Summer Games But is that really the case? After all, in 2032 it will be Brisbane’s turn in Australia, a city with 2.2 million inhabitants that is comparable to Wien is.

“It’s not possible,” “we don’t want it,” “too expensive” are quickly put forward, typically Viennese arguments. But is it really not possible? Doesn’t Vienna want it? “Of course the Olympic Games in Vienna would be possible,” said political scientist Peter Filzmaier in a recent interview with KURIER. “But only after a referendum. You can’t decide based on feelings, but rather on an objective debate.”

In the KURIER’s thought experiment, the Olympics in Vienna do not seem so unrealistic. The Olympic village could be built in the Seestadt urban development area.
