Paris 2024, Giuffrida ‘robbed’ in judo semifinal: the ‘scandal’ video

Odette Giuffrida ‘robbed’ and defeated in the semi-final of judo, category -52 kg, at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Italian, in the challenge with the Kosovar Distria Krasniqi, lost by hansoku-make after receiving 3 sanctions. The third shido – the decisive yellow card – was given to the 29-year-old Roman athlete with a decision that was nothing short of strict.

Giuffrida was penalized like her opponent: for Krasniqi, who repeatedly avoided the Italian’s holds, it was the first painless sanction. For the Italian, however, it was decisive and the measure caused the defeat. Giuffrida will return to the tatami for the final for third place and the bronze medal.

The tournament is characterized by the surprising exit of the Japanese Uta Abe. The Japanese, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020, was defeated in the round of 16 by the Uzbek Diyora Keldiyorova by ippon and lost her unbeaten run since 2019: to find another misstep in Abe’s curriculum you have to go back to 2019. After the defeat, the Japanese athlete collapsed: crying fits and a long consoling hug with her coach.
