Former Bayern player Demichelis new coach in Mexico

Former Bayern star Martín Demichelis will be the coach of Rayados de Monterrey in northern Mexico. “Welcome!” wrote the club in a post on the X platform and showed a picture of the 43-year-old Argentinian with the club crest on his jacket. After stints in Spain, Germany and Argentina, Demichelis is taking on a new challenge in Mexico. Rayados parted ways with Argentinian Fernando Ortiz at the beginning of August after just over a year.

At the end of July, Demichelis was released from Buenos Aires after one and a half years at Argentinian record champions River Plate. Demichelis had been considered as Thomas Tuchel’s successor at FC Bayern. He was also said to have been in talks with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim when TSG coach Pellegrino Matarazzo was allegedly a candidate for the post of national coach of the USA.

Also as a coach with Bayern past

As a player, the Argentinian was active at Bayern from 2003 to 2011, and he took over his first coaching position in Munich in the summer of 2019 with the record champions’ U19 team. In spring 2021, he initially coached the U21 team together with Danny Schwarz. Since the 2021/22 season, he has been the sole amateur coach and was runner-up in the Regionalliga Bayern. He then moved to his home country and won the Argentinian championship in his first season as coach of River.
