Belgrano fans return to Curitiba after show at Couto Pereira

The fans of Belgrano returns to Curitiba for the duel now against Athletico. The match will be this Thursday (15), at 7 pm, at Ligga Arena, for the round of 16 of the South American.

Eight years ago, in September 2016, the Argentine fans put on a show in the stands of Couto Pereira in the match against Coritiba in the same stage of the Sula. The “Pirates” came to the capital of Paraná to witness a historic moment in the club’s history: the first time Belgrano played in a match abroad.

It was a real invasion. Around 4,000 fans traveled the almost two thousand kilometers from Córdoba to Curitiba by plane, car and bus. swollen occupied the three rings of the green and white stadium and threw a huge party with banners, rags, smoke and flares. Many still consider it to be the “best visiting crowd in history” that has ever passed through the capital.

On the field, the white and blue team won 2-1, with goals from Bieler and Luján. Coxa scored with Leandro. In the return match, Coritiba managed to win 2-1, with goals from Iago Dias and Nery Bareiro. Bieler scored for the pirates with a bicycle kick goal.

With that, the game went to penalties and ended in a 4-3 victory for Coxa-Branca, with goalkeeper Wilson saving two shots under the watchful eyes of more than 50 thousand fans at the Mario Kempes Stadium.

After that, Belgrano only left Argentina again in a continental tournament this year to face Internacional, Delfín, in Ecuador, and Real Tomayapo in Bolivia, all in the group stage of the Sula. The team then never made it to the quarterfinals of the competition. The white and blue club has also never played in the Libertadores.

Fans promise to fill the visiting area of the Ligga Arena

Belgrano fans also promise to fill the visiting space at Ligga Arena in this Thursday’s (15) duel against Athletico. The siblings have been mobilizing on social media. Unlike Couto Pereira, the Atlético stadium is much smaller.

Furacão is allocating 1,600 tickets to its opponents. The prices of R$100 half-price and R$200 full-price charged by Athletico were also questioned. This is because the Argentine club had to increase the ticket prices as the home team to at least match the prices, which caused outrage among fans.

Belgrano announced last Monday (12) that more than 1,500 fans had already secured tickets for the match against Furacão. It will be the first match in history between the clubs.

The return leg is scheduled for August 22, next Thursday, at 7 pm, at the Mario Kempes Stadium, in Argentina. The Albiceleste club tried to move the game to its home stadium, the Julio César Villagra Stadium, better known as Gigante de Alberdi, but it does not meet Conmebol’s requirements.
