Dortmund sign Maximilian Baer for 5 years

German international Maximilian Bayer joined Borussia Dortmund on Monday on a five-year contract after passing a medical with the German club, coming from Hoffenheim.
“I’m very excited to take this next big step in my career,” said Bayer, 21, who scored 16 goals in 33 games last season.

Bayer was called up to the German national team for the first time last March, and was part of the official squad that played in the European Cup finals under coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The club’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl said Bayer was the club’s “first target” after Niklas Füllkrug left for English club West Ham.

“He is a very confident player on the pitch despite his young age, he has amazing speed, never stops running and is a real threat on goal,” he added.

“In addition, he can play in more than one position and apply different styles. There is room for him to develop further, and we will help him become a better player,” he continued.
He concluded: “He is a humble person who is willing to learn, and his hard work and commitment make him the perfect fit for Borussia Dortmund.”
