Four arrested in stabbing of Yamal’s father

Four people have been arrested after the stabbing of the father of footballer Lamine Yamal, who was out of danger, last night in Catalonia, local police said. The attack took place at 9:10 p.m. in a parking lot in the Catalan city of Mataro, about 30 kilometers from Barcelona, in the Rocafonda neighborhood where Lamine Yamal grew up, said a spokesperson for the Mossos de Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police.

Two hours later, three people were arrested and questioned at the Mataro police station, while the fourth detainee was captured at 11am this morning. Police did not provide details of their identities. Investigators will question the victim “as soon as possible” and witnesses to clarify the circumstances of the attack, police added.

Young Lamine Yamal went to the hospital to visit his father this afternoon. “Thank you all for the encouragement, I’m feeling better now, a big hug to everyone,” wrote the father of 17-year-old Barcelona star Yamal on Instagram. According to police, Nasraoui was stabbed multiple times and is being treated at Can Ruti Hospital in Badalona; he is “out of danger” and “stable,” a source close to the family said.

La Vanguardia newspaper reported that the incident occurred after a street argument with men who approached Yamal’s father while he was walking his dog, after which they attacked him. Yamal made his debut for Barcelona at the age of 15 in April 2023 and became a key player for the Catalans last season. The Spaniard also played a major role in the Spanish national team’s victory at the European Championship, which they won for the fourth time, becoming the youngest player to play and score in the competition’s history.

Yamal’s father and grandmother still live in Rocafonda and the young footballer often celebrates goals by making a “304” with his hands, which is the postal code of the neighborhood. Mounir Nasraoui became famous during the European Championship for his activity on social networks and in the media, often posting content in support of his son.
