Good start for Motta’s Juve, 3-0 against Como

Thiago Motta’s first Juventus did not falter and was entertaining against newly promoted Como. At the Allianz Stadium it ended 3-0 thanks to a goal on his absolute debut by the 2004-born Mbangula, surprisingly chosen among the starters, and goals by Weah (who then left due to injury) and Cambiaso.

Then also the two posts hit by Vlahovic, who also had a possible third goal disallowed due to Cambiaso being offside, detected by the VAR. Good debut therefore for the former Bologna coach while the first match back in Serie A for Cesc Fabregas’ white and blues is already one to forget. The visiting team starts with courage and resourcefulness, keeping possession of the ball for the first twenty minutes of the game, but without finding the gap to worry Di Gregorio.

The Bianconeri instead seem to study their opponents, starting at a slow pace and trying for the first time only in the 20th minute: Cambiaso crosses from the right midfield, Vlahovic heads and sends it just wide. A handful of seconds pass and the home team, thanks to a counterattack, find the lead: Weah changes game for Mbangula (Motta’s surprise choice), who moves to the centre from the left and from the edge of the area sends a great right-footed shot into the corner that makes it 1-0.

At the end of the first half, Juve doubled their lead with the injured Weah: great run by Yildiz on the left, ball in tow for the American who hit the crossbar with his left foot before the ball crossed the goal line. Just a few seconds earlier, Vlahovic had hit the post after a bloody ball lost by Como near their own area.

The Serbian striker’s bad luck continued at the start of the second half: first the VAR disallows Cambiaso’s goal for offside then hits the far post with a header after a chip attempt neutralized by Reina. For the rest of the half, little else happens, the Bianconeri control the double advantage without problems and in injury time complete the party with the 3-0 by Cambiaso, who scores a nice left-footed curler from outside after a nice pass by Mbangula.
