Sinner beats Tiafoe to win Cincinnati Masters 1000

The Italian Jannik Sinner world number 1, was crowned this Monday at the Masters 1.000 de Cincinnati by defeating the American with authority Frances Tiafoe.

Sinner suffered in the first set but was vastly superior in the second to win the final 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 in an hour and a half of play.

The 23-year-old Italian achieved his goal in Cincinnati fifth tournament of the season and was in a very good position to fight for the title in the US Open the last Grand Slam of the year which begins in a week.

Sinner was in danger in the first set, but in the tie-break he imposed his class and variety of strokes to win it 7-4. In the final set, the European fully put on his world number 1 suit and broke the American’s serve in the first game and also in the fourth, closing out the match at full speed.

“I’m happy, it’s been a very difficult week,” said the winner after the match. “It’s been tough mentally, but I’ve tried to do my best,” he said. The victory was Sinner’s third in an ATP Masters tournament, after his wins in Toronto y Miami.

Sinner, the reigning Australian Open champion, now has 15 titles after denying Tiafoe his first American success in Cincinnati since Andy Roddick won in 2006.
