A young Croat won world silver in the summer biathlon

The best young Croatian biathlete achieved a great result Matthias Legović who won second place in the super sprint (7.5 km) in the junior competition at the summer World Biathlon Championship, which will be hosted by the Estonian Otepaa until Sunday.

Legovi’s success is even more significant, because the 18-year-old from Brod Moravica came to the silver medal, even though he missed two targets in the first shooting in the final competition and was 18th in the competition of 30 competitors who all started at the same time on the 7.5 km section, where they were expected by č four goals.

With each new development of Legović managed to improve his ranking, not only because he hit all the remaining 15 targets, butć and because he was great in the racing part.

Već after the second shooting, he reached the eighth place, and after the third, he joined the fight for the distinction. After the last shootout, he was third on the pass, and by the end of the race he would have won the title of world runner-up.

The world champion in super sprint is Čeh David Elias who had one miss, and reached the finish line in 19 minutes and 32.8 seconds. Matija Legović was behind the winner by 10.2 seconds, with one more miss, while the Swede was third Victor Berglund with one miss and a gap of 13.2 seconds.

Another Croatian representative appeared in the qualifications, Filip Crnić but he did not manage to break into the 30 fastest who made it to the final. Not even two Croatian juniors passed the qualifications, Ema Sobol i Ines Legović.

The summer WC of biathletes differs from the winter one in that the competitors perform in lighter clothes and use roller skates instead of skis.

On Friday, senior men and women will compete in the super sprint, and Croatia will be represented Krešimir Blacksć i Anika Kožica.

Classic sprint races in both age categories are on the program on Saturday, and the World Championship will be concluded on Sunday with reach races in the junior competition, while in the senior competition, races with a common start are scheduled.
