A Styrian was allowed to prepare superstar Djokovic for the US Open

He is currently only Austria’s number four and 226th in the ATP rankings. But Ex-Kitzbühel-Finalist Filip Misolic has experienced a real highlight of his career away from tournaments. The 23-year-old Styrian with Croatian roots received an invitation from Superstar Novak Djokovic and prepared the Olympic champion for six days in Montenegro as a sparring partner. This was reported by the “Kleine Zeitung”.

This was arranged by the Tyrolean fitness trainer of Djokovic, Gebhard Gritsch“As I hardly had a chance of making it into the field for the US Open qualification anyway, I didn’t have to think about it for long,” said Misolic. “We trained on hard court for two hours a day and went through all the different shot variations,” said the Styrian about his experiences. Misolic was impressed by the 24-time major winner’s continued iron discipline. “He always gets the most out of himself.”

Misolic described Djokovic as a “cool guy who you can have a lot of fun with.” This has brought him a lot for his own career. “I can take a lot with me. Especially when it comes to attitude.” Misolic can easily get over the fact that he ultimately made it into the qualification for the US Open. Because he only found out about it two days before his start in New York. “It was smarter to train with Djokovic.”

The Styrian now trains on clay, plays the Challenger in Italy, Tulln and Bad Waltersdorf and hopes to be involved in the Davis Cup on 13/14 September against Turkeyalso in Bad Waltersdorf.
