First win of the season for Inter, Lecce beaten 2-0

A winning return to the San Siro for Simone Inzaghi’s Inter, who beat Lecce 2-0 and earned their first win of the season after the 2-2 draw in their seasonal debut away to Genoa. Another defeat, however, for Luca Gotti’s Lecce, who after the 4-0 home win against Atalanta had to surrender to an Inter team that proved to be superior overall. The goals, one in each half, were scored early in the match by Darmian and a penalty kick by Calhanoglu. In fact, five minutes were enough for Inter to find the net for the lead, thanks to a cross from the left by Dimarco that was headed in well by Taremi for Darmian to head home. The match was downhill from the start for the Nerazzurri, who struck Lecce coldly and continued to attack in search of a second goal. Gotti’s team, on the other hand, was crushed but well-organized on the pitch, waiting for Inter in a compact manner and then trying to counter-attack.

There were few noteworthy chances until half-time, with Inter however always present in the Salento midfield. At the start of the second half the Nerazzurri became dangerous again, with the transition that led to Barella’s service for Thuram, who narrowly missed the target defended by Falcone with his left foot. The first, timid, reaction from Lecce came in the 67th minute, with Krstovic’s header which Sommer had an easy grip on.

Not even a minute later, however, Inter found the back of the net, with Calhanoglu converting the penalty caused by Gaspar holding Thuram in the area. 2-0 and the Giallorossi seemed to be throwing in the towel in the face of an Inter team that was managing the final quarter of the game. Lecce had two flashes of brilliance in the final minutes: the first with a long-range shot by Dorgu, with the ball blocked by Sommer; the second, again with the Swiss goalkeeper starring in the diving save to deflect the shot from the newly entered Berisha into a corner. Inter held firm, and after six minutes of injury time saw the Lecce affair archived, earning their first win of the season.
