Former Athletico goalkeeper signs with European giant

Goalkeeper Neto, former Athletico signed with Arsenal for one year. The player arrives at the English club on loan, with no option to buy, according to the English press. The goalkeeper is trained at Furacão’s youth academy.

Neto moved to European football in 2010 to play for Fiorentina, before moving on to Juventus, Valencia and Barcelona. He has played for Bournemouth in England for the past three seasons.

The player arrived at Arsenal to replace Aaron Ramsdale, the goalkeeper who decided to leave the team and was signed by Southampton.

Neto has been called up several times by the Brazilian national team, but has only started for the main team once, in a friendly against El Salvador in 2018. In 2012, Neto was called up to the Brazilian team that competed in the London Olympic Games and won the silver medal.

Goalkeeper was trained at Athletico’s youth academy

A native of Caju, Neto arrived at Athletico at the age of 14 and made his professional debut in 2009. The player stood out in the 2010 Brasileirão, when he was a starter for Furacão, which finished in fifth place.

That year, he was called up twice for the Brazilian national team led by Mano Menezes. In 2011, the goalkeeper was sold to Fiorentina for around 3.5 million euros. At Athletico, he played 61 games and won the 2009 Campeonato Paranaense.

At Fiorentina, in 101 games, Neto went 34 matches without conceding a goal. At Barcelona, ​​he was alongside Messi, Suarez, Neymar, among others.
