Formula 1 in Monza: Lando Norris takes pole position

Lando Norris has also secured pole position for the Italian Grand Prix. The Briton drove his McLaren to first place in qualifying on Saturday in Monza, just as he did a week earlier in Zandvoort, Netherlands. His Australian Formula 1 teammate Oscar Piastri came second. At least one Ferrari will be on the second row in front of the home crowd. Charles Leclerc took fourth place, but he also had to let the British Mercedes driver George Russell pass him.

Behind the second Ferrari with Carlos Sainz and the second Silver Arrow with record world champion Lewis Hamilton, world champion Max Verstappen only came in seventh. The Dutchman, who has been waiting for a win for five Grand Prix, was almost seven tenths of a second behind Norris in the Red Bull. He is in danger of losing more points in the rankings this Sunday (3 p.m., Sky and RTL) at the Italian Grand Prix. Before the race, Verstappen is 70 points ahead of Norris, who last won in Zandvoort. Nico Hülkenberg, the only German in the field, came tenth in the Haas.
