Marta Arce loses in the judo semi-finals and will fight for bronze in -57 kilos J2

Spanish judoka Marta Arce lost on Friday in the semi-finals of the -57kg J2 category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, but she still has a chance of making the podium, as she will fight to win bronze, the fourth medal in her career and the first since London 2012.

The Spaniard lost 0-1 to the Uzbek Kumushkhon Khodjaeva, who scored a ‘waza-ari’, impossible for the Valladolid native to overcome in this semi-final fight in the -57 kilo J2 category.

Previously, Arce had quickly defeated Turkish judoka Dondu Yeyilsurt, world champion in 2022 and European champion in 2023, in the J1 class (blind judokas), thanks to a ‘waza-ari’ and an ‘ippon’.

Now, the Spaniard is waiting for her opponent in the fight for bronze, in which she hopes to win her fourth Paralympic medal, after the silver medals she won in Athens 2004 (-57 kg) and in Beijing 2008 (-63 kg) and the bronze in London 2012 (-63 kg).
