The City of Light archives its Olympic summer

Paris 2024 closes its doors. With one last party, as always in the name of dance, lights and its excellence. The protagonist of the long-awaited closing ceremony was the French musician and composer Jean-Michel Jarrea pioneer, already in the distant 70s, of electronic music. With him the spotlight was turned back on Stade de France to give one last, unforgettable emotion to the ecstatic crowd. For this icon of electromusic, TF1 comments, the closing show was “the opportunity to create a bond with the new generations and add the legendary Saint-Denis sports hall to the long list of legendary places where he has already performed”.

After the controversy aroused by the opening show of the Games and by some disruption in the Olympic village“Paris has concluded a successful Olympic summer”, the French media commented in unison. The ceremony began around 8:30 p.m., unfortunately without being ‘pardoned’ by the weather, which still reserved rain, which is why the organizers had to cancel the final flight of the spectacular Olympic cauldron, over the historic Tuileries gardens, in front of the Louvre.

Throughout the Olympics and Paralympics, the Olympic cauldron rose into the sky with a hot air balloon at dusk, so that it could be observed and admired by everyone, Parisians and tourists, from various points of the capital. It is said in many quarters that it will probably be this spectacular idea that will remain in the history of the Games, after a Opening Ceremony which – for the first time ever – France wanted to organize outside the stadium, thanks to the ‘natural’ scenery of the Ville Lumière.

Despite the rain, the Stade de France was transformed into a giant dance floor, for an hour of musical entertainment on the theme “Paris is a party”. At least 24 ‘big names’, among the greatest authors and performers of electronic music ‘Made in France’, passed the baton on the great stage of the Stade de France: from Jean-Michel Jarre to Kungs, to Kavinsky, just to name a few recognized artists of the “French Touch” in this musical genre.

Circa 4,400 parathletes were invited to parade for the last timeled by the Chinese delegation which this year ranked first in the Paralympic medal table for the sixth consecutive time, with 94 titles (220 medals), ahead of Great Britain (49 golds) and the United States (36 golds).
The torch will then pass to Los Angeleswhich will host the next Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. For the Paris Paralympic Games, organizers said, 2.5 million tickets were sold, slightly less than those for London. This is in addition to the 9.5 million tickets sold for the Olympic Games, for a total of 12 million for the two events. According to organizers, this is a record figure.
