WhatsApp launches Categories in channels, an option to discover content based on users’ interests

WhatsApp has launched a New Categories feature for channels of the platform, which facilitates the search for new channels according to the interests of users through seven categories, ranging from Sports or Lifestyle, to News and Information or People, among others.

The instant messaging social network continues to implement new features to improve the experience in the ‘app’. In this case, introducing new features in the channels, a section where users can transmit information in a one-way manner and receive the latest news from people and organizations directly in the app and privately.

In this context, WhatsApp has stressed that channels are an option that is already used monthly by around 500 million people worldwide and, in order to improve its use and facilitate the search of new channels that interest people, has introduced the New Categories feature.

With this option, users You will be able to easily search for new channels among seven different categories. These categories are: Sports, People, Organizations, Lifestyle, Entertainment, Business, and News & Information. So, when you choose one of them, WhatsApp will show you a series of channels related to the topic in question and the user will be able to browse through that list to join those that interest you most.

For example, when you choose the Sports category, you will see channels for, for example, different football or basketball teams, as well as channels for sports organizations, well-known athletes, or fan clubs for teams.

To use the categories, users will need to look for the tab ‘Updates’ and then select ‘Explore’ to see all categories and the relevant channels in the directory. Finally, you just need to choose the preferred channels to join.
