Years after “Zoom” – WhatsApp is upgrading its video calls: The world’s most popular messaging app from Meta has launched a new update that allows users to change backgrounds and apply filters during video calls. The option will be gradually added to all users.
With the update, users can choose to change their background during a video call. The options include blurring the background, choosing between virtual backgrounds such as an office, a beach or a cafe, and allow you to maintain the privacy of the environment without revealing the personal details behind them. The option to blur the background or choose a virtual background provides a solution for those who conduct video calls from residential environments or less formal places.
In addition to backgrounds, WhatsApp also adds visual filters that improve the quality of the image during the conversation. The filters include options for improving the overall appearance of the face, softening the skin features, brightening the face in low lighting conditions, as well as options for creating a more artistic or playful look with tones such as warm, cold, black and white, and more. This option is designed to allow users to enhance the look of the call without over-exerting or adjusting the shooting environment.
During the call, users can click on the “wand” icon in the corner of the screen to select the desired filter or background. The option is available in both personal and group video calls, which allows for a more flexible and wider use.
The new WhatsApp update is being rolled out gradually to users on the Android and iOS operating systems. The company announced that the goal of the new features is to give users a better and more comprehensive experience, especially in an era where video calls have become a central tool in daily communication, both for work and social conversations.
The improvement in WhatsApp is part of a series of updates that Meta has made to the application in recent months. The possibility of adding the application to iPad devices should also be released soon. This option is currently only in beta for “trial users” who are experimenting with apps in untested versions.
