Nintendo “reaches an agreement” with developers of the Switch emulator Ryujinx to stop its development

Ryujinx, an open source emulator of the Nintendo Switch has canceled all development. This was indicated by one of its developers in the project’s Discord, pointing out that this decision was made after they were contacted by the creators of the console.

As reported by the Polygon site based on the testimony of one of the people who worked on the program, the decision was made after the main developer of Ryujinx, gdkchan, was “contacted by Nintendo and offered a deal to stop working on the project” and delete it from the internet. Since Ryujinx has disappeared from the web, it’s obvious what his response was.

And there are reasons not to blame him, since in February of this year Nintendo sued the developers of the popular Yuzu emulator, before reaching an agreement that stipulated that the people behind the project had to stop distributing the program and pay financial compensation of US$2.4 million.

This marks a new chapter in Nintendo’s fight with emulators, controversial programs because, although they can be used legally by those who have legitimate ownership of the video games, they are often used for piracy.

This was the case with “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”, a video game that days before its launch was played by thousands of people thanks to a leaked copy compatible with the Yuzu emulator, an incident that was pointed out by the program’s developer himself. as guilty of its closure.
