The 5th ceremony to honor “Farmers’ Scientists” was held on the morning of October 3 in Hanoi. Mr. Luong Quoc Doan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, said that the title “Farmer’s Scientist” aims to recognize innovative scientists and farmers who have contributed to their achievements. In the list of farmers’ scientists this year, there are 37 people with academic titles and degrees who are professors, associate professors, doctors, and masters. Many intellectuals and scientists are authors of inventions and technical improvements, such as Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa, Head of the Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, with 35 research topics. Achieving good results when transferred to farmers, research on utilizing crop by-products as organic fertilizer, minimizing environmental pollution.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Vice President of the Vietnam Horticultural Association, with research on selecting and transferring to farmers MD7, MD9, L14 peanut varieties with productivity, quality, and resistance to green wilt disease, brings high economic efficiency. Or Dr. Duong Dinh Duc, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Lai Chau province, with many scientific and technical transfer projects such as preserving and developing Lai Chau ginseng, restoring Khau Hoc rice variety.

The program also has creative farmers who are passionate about research and own many inventions and improved tools and machinery. With many years of pursuing the restoration of 40 summer rice varieties, engineer Le Quoc Viet (60 years old), Director of the Innovative Farmers Cooperative (IFC), Chau Thanh district, Kien Giang province, was recognized with the title. Since 2017, Mr. Viet has planted and preserved many ancient indigenous rice varieties, coordinated with research institutes in the Mekong Delta (Can Tho University) to rejuvenate 850 local rice varieties, and selected 2 separate varieties. Currently, the equipment manufactured by Mr. Linh ranges in price from a few million to thousands. hundred million VND, applied in more than 20 provinces and cities and some countries in the region such as Laos and Cambodia.

Mr. Vo Van Ut, 63 years old, Long An, invented a corn seeding machine, a sesame sowing tool, and a peanut plucking machine to help free up labor for farmers. With the corn seeding machine solution, 1 hectare can be sown in two hours, saving about 20 labor costs compared to traditional sowing. “The award contributes to motivating farmers to make more new products to help their homeland and localities, and put them into more convenient production applications,” Mr. Ut shared.

The “Farmer’s Scientist” program is chaired by the Central Vietnam Farmers’ Union in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. , perform.
