Record funding round, OpenAI raises .6 billion

In a post appearing on the official website, OpenAI announces it has raised $6.6 billion in new financing, reaching a valuation of $157 billion. Leading the significant funding round was Thrive Capital, which invested $1.3 billion, with an exclusive option to invest an additional $1 billion at the same valuation by 2025. Names of prominent such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, SoftBank, Khosla Ventures, Altimeter Capital, Fidelity and MGX.

Altman’s company, creators of ChatGPT, calls this important financial support “crucial” to further accelerate progress in frontier AI research. Thanks to these funds, the company will be able to double its computing capacity and continue to develop tools that help people solve complex problems.
