Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat stated information at the conference “Promoting technology application and technical advances to contribute to rapid and sustainable socio-economic development of the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region” , held on the afternoon of October 9 in Cao Bang.

The Northern Midlands and Mountains region includes 14 provinces with a total area of ​​more than 95,000 km2, accounting for 1/3 of the country’s territory, playing a decisive role in the ecological environment of the entire Northern region. According to the Minister, the Region has potential and advantages for developing agriculture, forestry, hydropower, mining, tourism and border economy… However, the Region still faces the most difficulties in the country, linking regions weak and not yet fully developed. Accordingly, he wishes to promote scientific, technological and innovative solutions to exploit and take advantage of the region’s advantages, promote faster economic development, and help improve the lives of people in the region.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Hoang Xuan Anh, Chairman of Cao Bang Provincial People’s Committee, mentioned many difficulties, of which the Northern Midlands and Mountains region is vulnerable to natural disasters and the impacts of climate change. Accordingly, in addition to economic development solutions, he believes that promoting the application of technology and technical advances in surveying and forecasting the impact of natural disasters on people’s lives and development is very necessary. He hopes to have timely response solutions to limit risks and create a premise for development.

According to the Department of Technology Application and Technical Progress, Ministry of Science and Technology, from 2022 to present, localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region have implemented 494 provincial-level science and technology tasks. Of which the agricultural sector accounts for the largest proportion, 42.7%; social sciences and humanities 31.4%; science and technology 11.3%; medical and pharmaceutical science field 10.9%; The remaining is education – training, natural sciences and intellectual property 10.4%.

Tasks focus on applying scientific and technical advances to production and life, developing key products, typical products with local advantages along the value chain, bringing economic efficiency, improving productivity and competitiveness in the market.

Many national programs and tasks on dangerous weather patterns, flash flood warnings, landslides… have been implemented, but further research and timely updates are needed in the changing situation. Climate change is complicated.

Thanks to the application of technology and technical advances, Ha Giang has bred and developed a number of medicinal plant species that are considered rare and precious at the national level. This locality has built two medicinal plant conservation gardens, each with a scale of 0.3 hectares in Bac Quang and Dong Van, planting and preserving 45 species of rare medicinal plants, 21 species of imported medicinal plants and 58 species of medicinal plants. indigenous medicinal plants.

In Lang Son, Hong Vanh Khuyen products, Trang Dinh tangerines, chestnuts, tea under the star anise canopy of Binh Gia district, Loc Binh sweet potatoes, Bao Thai Hong Trang Dinh rice, Mau Son six-finger chicken, Van Linh chicken have been developed. ..

Many tree and animal varieties have been developed and successfully applied in models in Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Phu Tho… bringing economic efficiency.
