The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) has published the latest Monthly Climate Bulletin, highlighting the most significant climate trends.
September 2024 marked the second warmest September on record, after September 2023, with temperatures 0.73°C higher than the average for that month from 1991 to 2020. It was also 1.54°C warmer compared to the pre-industrial average estimated for the period between 1850 and 1900.
In Europe, trends mirror global findings. The average temperature for the month of September 2024 reached 16.47°C, exceeding the average for the same month from 1991 to 2020 by 1.74°C, making it the second highest recorded for the region, again after September 2023.
This visualization, based on C3S data, shows the surface air temperature anomaly for September 2024 over the European continent and parts of Africa, the Americas and Asia. CS3 data is critical for monitoring global climate trends, thus supporting decision makers and researchers to better understand and prepare for the impacts of a changing climate.
