In commemoration of the International Day of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), celebrated on October 14, Recolecc, in alliance with Epson and the Ministry of the Environment, announced the inauguration of 10 new collection points for electronic wastelocated in Lima and various provinces of the country. This initiative allows citizens to dispose of their unused electronic devices safely and appropriately, contributing to the protection of the environment and public health.
The new points will be located in four districts of Lima (San Isidro, Lince and the Center of Lima), as well as in Arequipa, Chiclayo (two points), Trujillo, Juliaca and Cusco covering strategic areas at the national level. This effort seeks to bring citizens more options for recycling electronic devices, facilitating access to these points to prevent waste from ending up in landfills or unsuitable spaces.
“We know that the proper disposal of electronic waste is a challenge in Peru, so these types of initiatives are essential to raise awareness and offer practical solutions to citizens. With these 10 new collection points, we hope to take a step forward in the management of electronic waste, contributing not only to the care of the environment, but also to public health,” declared Carlos Martínez, Sustainability specialist at Recolecc.
From the Ministry of the Environment, the initiative has been well received, as it contributes to the government’s efforts in the fight against climate change and environmental pollution. “Proper management of electronic waste is essential to avoid the release of toxic substances into the environment. We applaud this joint initiative that not only involves companies like Epson, but also raises awareness among citizens about the importance of recycling,” commented Juan Castro Vargas, Minister of the Environment of Peru.
Collection points will be available for all types of electronic devices, such as cell phones, tablets, printers, cables and small appliances. Recolecc will also carry out information campaigns in each of the cities where the points will be inaugurated, to educate citizens about the importance of WEEE recycling and the negative impacts of its poor management.
This launch is part of a series of activities within the framework of WEEE month, which seeks to involve more citizens and companies in the correct disposal of electronic waste, betting on a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
