The famous manga Death Note, born from the pen of Tsugumi Ohba and from the lines of Takeshi Obata, could soon be talked about again with a new video game. The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee has in fact classified a title called Death Note: Killer Within, developed by Bandai Namco for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This name is not new to the most attentive fans. Already in June, Shueisha, the publishing company that holds the rights to Death Note, had registered the trademark “Death Note: Killer Within” in Europe, Japan and the United States. The description, although generic, suggested the possibility of a video game.
The news comes from the website of the Taiwanese classification committee, which initially reported the title translated from traditional Chinese as “Death Note: Shadow Mission”. However, final confirmation of the official name came shortly after, with the site’s update clearly indicating Death Note: Killer Within. This new title adds to a long list of adaptations of the manga, which over the years has inspired anime, films (including a Netflix production), light novels and even a musical.
The Death Note manga was an extraordinary publishing success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. The original serialization took place in the Japanese weekly magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2003 to 2006. Precisely, the first chapter was published on December 1, 2003 and the last on May 15, 2006. With the arrival of Death Note: Killer Within, fans will be able to immerse themselves again in the dark and fascinating world created by Ohba and Obata, taking on the role of Light Yagami or perhaps a new character. All we have to do is wait for further information from Bandai Namco to find out what this new gaming chapter has in store for us.
