No more annoying neighbors: they create a screw that reduces noise in homes by half

Researchers from Malmö University have developed the ‘Sound Screw’, a screw designed to reduce structural noise in wooden homes, promising a significant reduction in noise nuisance. This invention It could improve coexistence between neighbors by offering a simple and effective solution without the need to carry out major works.

The ‘Sound Screw’ is more than a conventional screw: its structure incorporates a internal spring that acts as an acoustic damper. This allows surfaces to be connected mechanically while blocking the propagation of sound through wood, a material more susceptible to noise than others such as concrete.

Laboratory tests revealed that the use of the ‘Sound Screw’ manages to reduce up to 9 decibels compared to traditional systems considerably improving the acoustic quality in homes. Unlike cork panels or other insulation solutions, this screw does not take up additional space in homes, an advantage that adds value in terms of comfort and space efficiency.

One of the main advantages of the invention is the ease of installation.
