China’s humanoid robot is the fastest in the world

STAR1 humanoid robot can reach a maximum running speed of 12.9 km/h with the help of a pair of sports shoes.

In a new video released by Chinese company Robot Era, a team of experts pits two STAR1 robots against each other in the Gobi Desert, northwest China, and equips one model with sneakers to see if this helps it. run faster, Live Science reported on October 18. As a result, the shoe-wearing robot started later but then overtook its opponent.

STAR1 is a humanoid robot made by Robot Era, 171 cm tall and weighing 65 kg. Equipped with a high-torque motor and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, the STAR1 model moves through a variety of terrain types, including grasslands and rocky areas. The robot runs on asphalt and dirt roads, maintaining maximum speed for 34 minutes.

According to Robot Era’s statement, the STAR1 model wearing shoes reaches a maximum speed of 12.9 km/h. This means it has surpassed Chinese company Unitree’s H1 robot to become the fastest robot of its kind ever built. Previously, H1 set a speed record for bipedal robots at 11.9 km/h in March this year. While STAR1 has the aid of shoes, H1 also does not actually run because both feet do not leave the ground at the same time during movement.

STAR1 is equipped with AI hardware capable of processing 275 trillion calculations per second. This number is much higher than the typical AI processing level of many laptops, ranging from 45 to 55 calculations per second. This robot also has 12 degrees of freedom – the number of joints the robot has and the range of motion it can perform.

STAR1 is just one of many humanoid robots that companies around the world have launched in recent months such as Tesla’s Optimus Gen-2, Figure AI’s AI-equipped Figure 01 and Boston Dynamics’ Atlas, showing the development speed of this type of robot.
