Roblox will introduce a new account with parental privileges and default settings for those under 13 years old

Roblox is introducing a new type of account that will give parents privileges to monitor their children’s activity on the platform and the time they spend on it, a change that will be complemented by the implementation of a series of default settings in the accounts. of minors under 13 years of age.

The company plans to introduce new features next month in parental control tools, in the experience labeling system and in the accounts of children under 13 years of age with the aim of making its platform safer for the little ones.

These new features begin with the introduction of a new type of account for parents, which eliminates the need to enter a PIN, set restrictions or receive notifications related to the child’s account.

This account grants privileges to parents, who must link it with their child’s account to be able to monitor it from their own mobile device. With it, they will be able to access parental control tools and statistics on their child’s use of this platform, as Roblox explained in an email sent to The Verge.

Children under 13 will also need parental permission to access certain chat features, and those under 9 will also need this permission to access experiences classified as having a medium maturity level, which are those contain moderate violence and crude humor.

Precisely, another change is the experience labeling system. Announced in July, the new maturity rating will soon display a label in experiences about the type of content being displayed, replacing the age rating.

With this system, Roblox hopes that parents will be clearer about the type of content their children are exposed to, and based on this they can establish limits on access through parental controls.
