Google will advance the arrival of Android 16 to align with the launch schedule of its devices

Google has announced that it plans two launches in 2025, including the preview of Android 16, which will initially arrive in the second quarter of the year; a change with which it seeks to align with the launch schedule of the devices in its ecosystem.

The technology company has advanced what its plans are for next year in a bets on “faster innovation in applications and devices, with greater stability and improvements for users and developers”, as it has advanced in its blog for developers.

In recent years, Google has launched the different versions of the operating system it develops in the second half of the year. This has happened so much with Android 14, which delayed its arrival to October to incorporate different corrections and improvements.

That was also the month chosen by the American technology firm to officially present its later version, Android 15, which it began implementing on Pixel devices a few days ago.

The next Android update will not follow the same pace, as Google plans to bring it forward to the second quarter of 2025 and has chosen to offer software development kits (SDKs) “more frequently.”

This means that, for next year, I plan “an important launch” with Android 16, which will include “behavioral changes that may affect apps”; and another “minor” in the fourth quarter”, which will include new application programming interfaces (APIs), optimizations and bug fixes from the major release.

Google has therefore chosen to bring forward the launch of its OS with the aim of aligning itself “better with the device launch schedule” of its ecosystem and so that “more devices can get the main Android release sooner.”

For this reason, it has announced that preview program will start “soon” and beta, so that developers can prepare their services for the launch corresponding to the second quarter of next year.
