Prime Video, summaries generated by artificial intelligence arrive

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a new feature based on generative artificial intelligence that promises to revolutionize the way we watch TV series. It’s called X-Ray Recaps and allows you to get textual summaries of entire seasons, individual episodes or even parts of them, all with a simple click. The innovative function, accessible from a show’s details page or directly while viewing via X-Ray, analyzes video segments, subtitles and dialogue to generate detailed descriptions of key events, places, times and conversations.

“X-Ray Recaps offers our users a quick and easy way to catch up on a series or refresh their memory on previous episodes, without wasting precious time,” says an Amazon spokesperson. “The AI has been trained to avoid spoilers and keep summaries concise and informative, ensuring an optimal viewing experience.” To avoid unwanted spoilers and maintain brevity, Amazon has implemented “safety barriers” in the X-Ray Recaps algorithm. The feature is currently in beta and initially available on Fire TV devices in the US. Later this year, Amazon plans to expand support to more devices. At launch, X-Ray Recaps will be compatible with all Amazon MGM Studios original series.
